Using the reference
Use each article’s sources, jurisdiction and last checked date when deciding whether it meets your needs. For decisions about health, food safety or legal obligations, consult the relevant authority or a suitably qualified professional.
Our Editorial Policy explains our approach to evidence and corrections and is available now.
Reusing text
Some reuse of protected material requires permission, an applicable licence or a legal exception. In the UK, the quotation exception applies subject to conditions: the work must have been made available to the public, the use must be fair dealing, and the extent of the quotation must be justified by its specific purpose. Sufficient acknowledgement is also required unless this is impossible for practical or other reasons. [2, 3]
When citing an article, include its title, fromage.co.uk, the credited author where shown, a link and the date you accessed it. Preserve any jurisdiction, date or qualification needed to keep the extract accurate.
[TO CONFIRM: approved permissions and attribution requirements for reuse of the site's text.]
For republication beyond an applicable licence or exception, request permission through the contact route above. Identify the material, intended use and whether you plan to adapt it.
Reusing data
Check the licence accompanying each dataset before copying, adapting or redistributing it. [TO CONFIRM: approved dataset licence, attribution wording and location of reuse terms.]
In the UK, database copyright and database rights are distinct protections with different qualifying conditions. Database rights depend on substantial investment in obtaining, verifying or presenting data. [4]
Keep dataset versions, source references, observation dates and status fields with any permitted reuse. Retain “Not verified” values rather than converting them into conclusions. Refer to the originating authority when checking a rule or registration.
Images and third party material
Obtain permission from the relevant rights holder or rely on an applicable licence or legal exception before reusing photographs, illustrations or third party extracts. A licence for an article’s text does not automatically cover those materials. [2]
Responsible use and external links
Use the site lawfully. Do not introduce malicious software, attempt unauthorised access or deliberately disrupt access for others. Any permitted automated access must respect applicable rights and avoid disrupting the service.
External websites have their own terms. Check their current content and any conditions before relying on or reusing it.
Your rights
Your rights under applicable law remain unchanged. Under the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015, unfair consumer terms and notices are not binding on consumers. We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. [5]
Changes and disputes
[TO CONFIRM: effective date, version history and how changes to these terms will be dated and communicated.]
Please raise concerns through the contact route above. [TO CONFIRM: governing law and dispute provisions, preserving mandatory consumer protections and rights to bring proceedings in the appropriate courts.]
